- Working with partners, shareholders and other stakeholders
- Developing roles and responsibilities for a key terminal for APM Terminals in the region
- Lead the design, fine-tuning and testing of container release and acceptance in the context of automated gates in close collaboration with local shipping line office as well as other relevant stakeholders
- Lead the specification, selection and implementation of an appointment system
- Closely manage port community (truckers, importers/exporters, forwarding agents etc) together with the shipping lines to create buy in around the concept of appointment, incorporate customers' needs and provide training and support as needed
- Liaise with customs and port authorities to ensure concession obligations as well as any other requirements are met
- Work closely with the supplier of the Gate Operating system to ensure the infrastructure and systems are installed/configured to match the operational specification
- Lead mapping and testing of the various EDI messages involved in gate transactions in collaboration with the shipping line and other staff in the planning department
- Lead the testing of activities around the automated gates and follow up on resolutions of exceptions
- Establish training materials as/where required
- Close to go live lead the communication campaign in the port community to ensure smooth start up
- Lead the recruitment and training of all staff in the gate department
- Manage, motivate and instruct all Gate and Rail team members to achieve high work performance. Structure tasks and goals to establish efficient course of actions, set priorities and organize information.
- Liaise closely with users of the automated gates as well as shipping lines to ensure smooth service delivery while maintaining the transactions secured and the operations safe
- Ensure safe working conditions are kept.
- Provide regular process control checks and initiate and support performance improvement activities.
- Maintain and enhance relationships and goodwill with external / internal customers, vendors and contractors.
- Promote good relationship with trucking community, agencies, customs, quarantine and other bodies.
- Follow up the customs procedures & implement changes if necessary.
- The incumbent is expected to supervise a group of subordinate staff towards the achievement of results. Responsibility for the execution of operational activity.
- The incumbent is expected to contribute suggestions to improve existing methodologies, processes and measurements when executing duties on an ongoing basis to improve efficiencies at the gate
- The position is complex
- Master Degree in Transportation, Economics, Business Studies or Logistics.
- Experience of at least 5 years in dealing with the Moroccan Port environment in a management role.
- Proven experience in dealing with customs clearance processes, port formalities or trucking activities in/with the port complex of Tangier Med.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of the different processes, actors and regulations involved in the flow of import/export container.
- Excellent knowledge of Government Agencies (especially Customs) imports and exports procedures.
- Excellent communicator, able to build up relationships at all levels and influence others without formal authority.
- Ability to be a problem solver and an independent facilitator in which to resolve any customer issue with due respect of company policies.
- Must be conversant with MS Office suite.
- Proficiency in English, French and Arabic.
