Tanger Med, ranked as the First Great Port African, will be among the Twenty Best Ports of the World in 2019

Tanger Med, ranked first major African Port by its importance, will figure in 2019 also among the twenty best ports in the world, when it will have multiplied by three its current capacity to receive 3.3 million containers by, bringing it back to 9 million containers per year.

Tangier Med is operational since July 2007. It was born from the will of King Mohammed VI who provided all the human resources, material, financial, reflections and orientations, so that the project is born and realized.

As a new Mediterranean hub, Tangier Med is a leading port, industrial and logistics platform. It is located 14 km from Spain, so from Europe and it joins the main maritime routes of the world. 38% of African shipping passes through Tangier Med, and it will continue to grow.

Tangier Med is an integrated program that aligns both port, rails, roads and industrial areas.

The works of Tanger Med 1 and 2 brought together the major world-renowned operators such as Maersk Line and CGM who operate the terminals.

Tangier is connected to 186 world ports in 77 countries. It offers the processing capacity of seven million passengers, 700 thousand TIR trucks and one million vehicles per year.

It is an industrial platform for more than 800 companies representing an export volume of 6,400 million euros in various sectors, including automotive, aeronautics, agribusiness, trade, logistics, textiles, trade, services.

More than 100 thousand boats a year and 200 cargo ships pass through the Strait of Gibraltar daily on the major services of the world's largest shipowners who connect Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa. 650 companies with a turnover of 4 billion euros and 2 billion private investments make Tanger Med a locomotive of regional development that also provides training for employees. Tool for competitiveness and growth, Tangier Med allows the Kingdom of Morocco to consolidate its position in world trade, with a real socio-economic impact at the local level.

The Renault plant, located in Soumaka, on the Tangier City and Tangier Med axes, produces 400,000 vehicles per year sold inside the country or exported. Local companies and other subcontracting companies have set up and supply various parts to the Renault plant. This allowed Tanger Med to create more than 70 thousand jobs. Other companies that set up around the Renault plant manufacture parts that this factory buys.

The most important index is the local integration rate of 55%, ie. that for a car made in Morocco, 55 pieces are made in Morocco, while the other 45 pieces are developed abroad.

In 2007, the Moroccan State signed an agreement with the Renault plant, according to which the plant built 40 ha of covered buildings on a 300-hectare site belonging to Renault.

In 2012 Renault produced its first car in Morocco. She started producing 200,000 vehicles a year.

Among its products in Morocco, Renault is developing the Dacia brand car, which has an affordable cost of US $ 7,000 (US $ 7,000) for the cheapest car. While the most expensive car produced in Morocco by Renault is between US $ 17 thousand and US $ 18 thousand. It is a vehicle on 4X4 ground.

To understand the boom created by Tangier Med, we must know that the City of Tangier has experienced a population growth of 50% following a workforce that came to work following the creation of Tangier Med, a port through which transit 2.8 million passengers per year, of which 1.4 million are Moroccans returning home.

The site where Port Tanger Med was erected was previously a beautiful beach located 50 km from the city of Tangier. But the old Port of Tangier City now continues to function simply as a port of convenience. Just to welcome tourists. The city of Tangier alone receives 400 thousand tourists a year. It has 2 million inhabitants. If we add the population of the neighboring city of Tetouan, the population reaches 3.3 thousand inhabitants.

The port of Tangier Med II continues to strengthen

The port of Tangier Med announced on Wednesday in its Twitter account the recpeción of three new cranes for the new terminal TC4 of APM Maersk in Tanger Med II. It is a new batch delivery of the largest cranes in the world equipped with the latest technologies.

These are remote controlled STS cranes to create high productivity on one of the most strategically important trade routes in the world

The first three cranes of this type arrived from China last February. These are STS cranes controlled remotely to create high productivity in one of the most strategically important commercial routes in the world, such as the Strait of Gibraltar.

In principle, this new batch of cranes arrives in Tangier with the aim of entering into operation in 2019, date in which it is expected that the 12 structures commissioned by the Chinese company are already installed.

The STS cranes - manufactured by ZPMC in Shanghai - will be fully automated, including a remote crane operator located in an office building near the pier, and will feature Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to provide maximum efficiency and productivity to APM Terminals customers.

This new equipment will reinforce port activities in a dock that has significantly increased its results so far this year
