A Chinese boat docked this afternoon at the port of Tangier, with three giant cranes on board. Considered as the largest in the world, these huge elevators are added to the first delivery of three units. The cranes will be installed on the quay of the new port of Tangier Med II which will be inaugurated in a few months.
These cranes were transported from the port of Shanghai on board a 225-meter-long boat with a load of 27,264 tonnes. According to sources close to Tangier Med II, they will allow the installation of two storage areas with a capacity of 6 million containers, knowing that the port Tanger Med I can only accommodate 3 million.
The progress rate of works in the port of Tangier Med II has reached 90% and the delivery is scheduled for the end of this year. The APM Terminals company that imported these cranes invested nearly $ 800 million to build a dock that meets international standards at the Tangier Med II port.
