This is not a first stone that has been asked, but a major achievement that has emerged. The High Speed Train (TGV) linking the city of Tangier and Casablanca, inaugurated this Thursday, November 15 by HM King Mohammed VI and the French President, Emmanuel Macron highlights the aspect of "sustainable development" of the transport site in Morocco , like the other projects launched during the reign of the Sovereign.
The Moroccan TGV, first high speed line of Africa, was baptized by the Sovereign "Al Boraq". This major achievement will reduce the distance and time of travel to serve the well-being of travelers.
"Al Boraq", which is part of the master plan of LGV which aims to build a network of about 1,500 km, consisting of the axis "Atlantic" Tangier-Casablanca-Agadir and axis " Maghreb "Rabat-Fez-Oujda, will make the course Tangier-Kenitra in 50 min instead of 3h15min, Tangier-Rabat in 1h20min instead of 3h45min and Tangier-Casablanca in 2h10min instead of 4h45min.
Huge project, LGV Tangier-Casablanca is part of the major infrastructure projects launched by Morocco, including the port of Tangier-Med, the extension of the motorway network and the establishment of industrial and technological parks. So many advantages that the Kingdom offers as a platform to access the markets of Arab and African countries.
The continuous royal follow-up of the various phases of the execution of this structuring project and the concern of the Sovereign to make the Moroccan TGV a radiant image of Morocco of the modernity and the technological development, emanate from the crucial importance of this project, its economic scope and its technological dimension as well as its contribution to the preservation of the environment since it will prevent the emission of 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Several French companies took part in this project, whose total cost, which is approximately 51% financed by France through various loans, represents nearly 23 billion dirhams. These include SNCF, which provides project management assistance to the National Railways Office, but also Egis and Systra, Alstom for the supply of trains, and the Colas Rail-Egis Rail consortium. for the tracks and catenaries.
This commissioning culminates a series of dynamic tests started in February 2017, to validate the smooth operation of rolling stock and infrastructure. These speeding tests made it possible to reach, on October 20, 2017, the commercial speed of 320 km / h, before passing the overspeed tests putting the whole system to the test.
On May 4, 2018, the test train driven by a Moroccan railway worker reached the speed of 357 km / h between Tangier and Kenitra, thus establishing the speed record on railway lines within the African continent. This step was a historic moment for Morocco, which opted for this new technology, especially since this structuring project is implemented with the help of Moroccan managers and assistants under the supervision of the ONCF.
These tests remained necessary to deal with any anomalies that could be observed before the start of the commercial commissioning of the LGV.
Renovation is not limited only to the infrastructures reserved for the LGV but also concerns train stations to erect them into urban landmarks integrated into the urban fabric. The new Tangier, Kenitra, Rabat-Agdal and Casa-Voyageurs high-speed train stations have been fully renovated to be real living spaces, serving both the traveler and locals alike.
The Tangier-Casablanca TGV is in addition to other achievements in the Strait, including a world-class marina, a commercial port among the largest in Africa and the Mediterranean, and huge free zones. So many infrastructures that put Tangier at the head of Mediterranean cities experiencing an urban and economic evolution and making it a capital of the Mediterranean basin par excellence. All in accordance with the High Instructions of HM the King aiming to make Morocco an African gateway to the world and a platform for global development that places the human at the heart of the concerns.
